If your transfers are a few gigabytes, both free plans do the job. The gap opens with video projects, photo shoots or 3D files: anything over 5 GB needs a paid TransferNow plan, while Transfr handles it for free up to 100 GB. TransferNow, on the other hand, scans files for viruses on every plan, which Transfr doesn’t offer.

TransferNow advertises its prices on a two-year commitment; its FAQ mentions annual billing at a smaller discount, but the page doesn’t list those amounts. Transfr Pro is billed monthly or yearly, without a two-year option. Over two years, TransferNow Premium (€144) costs less than Transfr Pro (€288 on yearly billing); Transfr Pro removes the size cap and includes up to 10 team members.

Over 5 GB? Send it free
Transfr sends up to 100 GB per transfer without an account.
Security and privacy compared
Both services encrypt files in transit and at rest, and both let you add a password on the free plan. TransferNow adds an antivirus scan. Transfr adds optional end-to-end encryption: files are encrypted in your browser before upload, so the stored copy can’t be read without the key carried in your link. Transfr accounts support two-factor authentication, and Transfr lets you choose the storage region of each transfer for free, where TransferNow offers region selection on Premium and Team. For a checklist of what to look for in any service, read secure file transfer.
Receiving files: deposit links vs file requests
Both services let other people send files to you. TransferNow Free includes requests by email and deposit links, with a widget and “push” options on paid plans. Transfr’s file requests are free and need no account for you or the sender: you set a title, an optional password, an expiry (or none) and a cap on submissions, then share the link or QR code. Each submission can be up to 100 GB, and you get an email when files arrive. See also how to receive files from clients.
