How to send large files for free in four steps
Step 1
Open Transfr
Go to the Transfr home page. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
Step 2
Drop your files
Add files or whole folders, up to 100 GB in total. Videos, RAW photos, archives, any format: nothing is converted or compressed.
Step 3
Pick link or email
Copy a link to share anywhere, or let Transfr email up to 10 recipients. Add a password or an expiry date if you like: both are free.
Step 4
Send
The upload runs in parallel parts and retries by itself if the connection drops. Once done, your recipients can download straight away, without an account.
Which free file transfer service sends the most?
Free plans look alike until you read the limits. The headline size is only one of them: some services also cap the number of transfers per month, ask you to create an account, or slow down large free transfers. We checked each provider’s own help pages in October 2026.
| Service | Size per transfer | Other limits on the free plan | Files available for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transfr | 100 GB | Unlimited transfers, no account needed | 1 to 7 days, your choice |
| WeTransfer Free | 3 GB | 10 transfers or 3 GB in total per 30 days; free account required to send | 3 days |
| Smash Free | No set limit | Transfers over 2 GB wait in a queue behind paid ones | 7 days |
| TransferNow Free | 5 GB | None stated | 7 days |
| SwissTransfer | 50 GB | Download count capped (1 to 250) | 1 to 30 days |
| Filemail Free | 5 GB | 2 transfers per 24 hours | 7 days |
| Dropbox Transfer (Basic) | 2 GB | Dropbox account required | 7 days |
If your files fit in a few gigabytes, most of these will do. Past 5 GB, the choice narrows quickly, and past 50 GB Transfr is the only one in this list that stays free without a queue. For the details of each plan, see our WeTransfer free plan breakdown and the best free file transfer services.
Send up to 100 GB for free
No account, no monthly quota. Drop your files and share the link.
What is included in the free plan
Free does not mean stripped down. Everything that protects or organises a transfer is available without paying, and most of it without an account.
100 GB per transfer
Any number of files and folders, as long as the total stays under 100 GB. Send as many transfers as you need.
End-to-end encryption
Encrypt files in your browser before upload so that only people with the full link can open them.
Expiry and download limit
Keep files online 1, 3, 5 or 7 days, and stop the link after a set number of downloads.
Previews and comments
Recipients can play videos, view photos and read PDFs in the browser, and leave comments pinned to a frame or a page.
Can you send large files for free without signing up?
Yes. On Transfr you can send a transfer, by link or by email, without an account and without confirming your email address. Your recipient does not need an account either.
A free account is still useful if you send often. It lets you see your past transfers, change the expiry date or the download limit after sending, delete a transfer early, and get an email each time someone downloads your files. It costs nothing and does not change the 100 GB limit.
What is not free?
Transfr Pro costs €15 per month, or €144 per year (€12 per month). It is meant for people who send files every week for work, and it adds:
- No size limit per transfer, instead of 100 GB
- Files kept online for up to 60 days, instead of 7
- Send & Track: who opened the link, from which country, on which device, and which files they viewed or downloaded (download tracking)
- Your own logo, background images or videos, subdomain and custom domain (custom branding)
- Priority support
If none of these matter to you, the free plan is not a trial: it does not expire and does not ask for a card.
Other free ways to send large files, and their catch
Email with a cloud link
Gmail turns anything over 25 MB into a Google Drive link, and Outlook.com lets you share from OneDrive. It works, but the file counts against your storage (15 GB on a free Google account, shared with Gmail and Photos; 5 GB on free OneDrive) and stays there until you delete it. Details in sending large files by email.
Messaging apps
WhatsApp accepts documents up to 2 GB and Telegram files up to 2 GB (4 GB with Premium). Both need the recipient on the same app, and photos or videos sent as media are compressed. See sending a large video on WhatsApp.
Splitting or compressing
Cutting a file into a multi-part archive lets it slip under an attachment cap, but the recipient needs the right software and every part to rebuild it. Compressing video or photos loses quality for good. A single link to the original file avoids both. Read should you zip files before sending.
How much fits in 100 GB?
| Content | Typical size | Fits in 100 GB |
|---|---|---|
| 4K video for YouTube (45 Mbps) | About 340 MB per minute | Almost 5 hours |
| 1080p video for YouTube (8 Mbps) | About 60 MB per minute | About 27 hours |
| 4K ProRes 422 HQ, 30 fps | About 6.6 GB per minute | About 15 minutes |
| RAW photos from a 45 MP camera | 40 to 60 MB each | 1,700 to 2,500 photos |
| Smartphone photos (HEIC/JPEG) | 2 to 5 MB each | 20,000 or more |
Video figures come from YouTube’s recommended upload bitrates and Apple’s ProRes white paper; your files may be bigger or smaller depending on the codec and settings. For specific sizes, see sending 10 GB for free and sending 50 GB for free.
