WeTransfer limits in 2026: what each plan really allows

WeTransfer’s limits now depend on a 30-day quota, not just a size cap. As of October 2026, the free plan allows 10 transfers or 3 GB in total in any rolling 30 days, with links that expire after up to 3 days; paid plans raise the volume, and only Ultimate and above remove the transfer count.

WeTransfer’s help center adds two storage figures: accounts default to 2 TB of storage, counting both live and recoverable transfers, and Teams can have up to 5 TB, extendable to 30 TB on request. Prices vary by currency and billing period, so check the pricing page in your country.

What is the WeTransfer max file size on the free plan?

Effectively 3 GB. The free quota is 3 GB in total across a rolling 30 days, so the largest single transfer you can send is 3 GB, and only if you haven’t sent anything else in the past month. Each transfer can go to up to 10 email recipients, and a download link can be opened by any number of people. Sending requires a free WeTransfer account; recipients don’t need one.

How the rolling 30-day window works

The quota does not reset on the first of the month. Each transfer frees up its slot 30 days after you sent it. WeTransfer’s own example: send two transfers on the 1st and eight more on the 15th, and two slots come back on the 1st of the next month, the other eight on the 15th. The same logic applies to the 3 GB volume.

Example: a freelancer on the free plan
DateWhat they sendUsed in the last 30 daysLeft
March 21 GB video draft1 GB, 1 transfer2 GB, 9 transfers
March 101.5 GB photo set2.5 GB, 2 transfers0.5 GB, 8 transfers
March 20Wants to send a 1 GB final cut2.5 GBBlocked: only 0.5 GB left
April 1March 2 transfer drops out of the window1.5 GB, 1 transfer1.5 GB: the 1 GB final cut now fits

Hit the WeTransfer limit?

Transfr sends up to 100 GB per transfer, free, with no monthly quota and no account.

Send with Transfr

On Free and Starter, transfer links expire after up to 3 days. Ultimate lets you set the expiry yourself, including no expiry, and recover expired transfers. If your recipient is travelling or only checks email on Mondays, a 3-day link can lapse before they open it. Transfr’s free links last 1 to 7 days, and up to 60 days on Pro; SwissTransfer offers up to 30 days for free.

What to do when you reach the WeTransfer limit

  • Wait for the window to roll. Fine if nothing is urgent: your oldest transfer frees up 30 days after it was sent.
  • Upgrade. Starter (€8 per month) gives 300 GB but still 10 transfers and 3-day links; Ultimate (€23 per month) removes the transfer count and size cap.
  • Use another free service for big or frequent sends. Transfr carries up to 100 GB per transfer without an account or a monthly quota. See send large files for free.
  • Don’t split files to dodge the cap. Several small transfers still count against the 10-transfer limit.
  1. Step 1

    Open Transfr

Go to transfr.me. No account needed.

  2. Step 2

Drop the files that didn’t fit

Up to 100 GB per transfer, folders included. See how to send 10 GB for typical upload times.

  3. Step 3

    Choose Email or Link

Email notifies up to 10 recipients; Link gives a URL to paste anywhere.

  4. Step 4

    Set expiry and protection

1 to 7 days, optional password, download limit or end-to-end encryption.

Limits that don’t exist on WeTransfer Free

WeTransfer’s free plan page states that password and access controls are available on every plan, including Free (with an account), and that there is no limit on how many people can use a download link. The main constraints are the volume, the transfer count, the 3-day expiry and the personal, non-commercial use condition, which matters if you send work to clients.
