What photographers send, and how big it gets
| Delivery | Typical content | Rough size | Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proof selection | 200 to 600 low-res JPEGs | 0.5 to 3 GB | Free |
| Final portrait or product shoot | Edited full-res JPEGs or TIFFs | 2 to 20 GB | Free |
| Full wedding or event | Several hundred to a few thousand edited JPEGs, sometimes RAW | 20 to 100 GB | Free up to 100 GB |
| RAW files to a retoucher | RAW + XMP sidecars, layered TIFF or PSD | 10 to 150 GB | Free up to 100 GB, Pro above |
| Archive handover to an agency | Full year of shoots | 200 GB and more | Pro (unlimited size) |
Sizes depend on your camera and settings; our RAW photos guide has a per-megapixel table. The point is that email (25 MB), WhatsApp (compressed media) and most free transfer plans (2 to 5 GB) stop well short of a real delivery. As of October 2026, WeTransfer Free allows 3 GB per 30 days.
How to deliver photos to clients with Transfr
Step 1
Export into one folder per client
Name it after the client and date, with subfolders if you like (Ceremony, Portraits, Party). The structure is kept.
Step 2
Drop the folder on transfr.me
Open transfr.me and drag the folder in. Up to 100 GB per transfer, no account needed.
Step 3
Set the delivery options
Expiry of 1 to 7 days free (up to 60 on Pro), a password for private sessions, and a custom link such as transfr.me/smith-wedding.
Step 4
Turn on comments if you want feedback
Clients can click a spot on a photo and leave a note, which pins the request exactly where it applies.
Step 5
Send by email or copy the link
Email notifies up to 10 people (the couple and their parents). Or paste the link into your own email with your signature.
Deliver your next shoot in one link
Up to 100 GB free, full resolution, no account for your client.
Proofing and retouch requests with comments
Instead of a long email listing “IMG_4821, a bit brighter; IMG_4877, remove the sign”, clients open the proof transfer, click on the part of the image they mean and type their note. With a free account, you get an email for each comment, and the notes stay attached to the right photo and area. It works for PDFs too (a contact sheet or an album layout), pinned to the page. Comments are free; turn them on per transfer.
Sending RAW files to a retoucher or second shooter
- Keep sidecars next to their RAWs. XMP files travel with the folder, so your Lightroom adjustments survive the trip.
- Don’t zip just to shrink. RAW files barely compress further; send the folder as is. See should you zip before sending.
- Protect unreleased work with a password and, for embargoed shoots, end-to-end encryption: files are encrypted in your browser and the key is never stored on our servers.
- Receive the edits back through a file request: the retoucher uploads up to 100 GB without an account and you get an email.
Collecting files from clients
Brides send mood boards, brands send logos and shot lists, event organisers send guest photos. Create one file request per project, share the link or its QR code, and everything lands in one place. You can set a password, a deadline and a cap on submissions. Submitted files stay available for 7 days, so download them to your archive once they arrive. More in how to receive files from clients.
Studio branding and knowing the client downloaded
| Need | Free | Pro (€15 per month or €144 per year) |
|---|---|---|
| Size per transfer | 100 GB | Unlimited |
| Link duration | Up to 7 days | Up to 60 days |
| Download emails | Yes, with a free account | Yes |

| Your logo and background image or video | No | Yes |
| Your subdomain or domain (photos.yourstudio.com) | No | Yes |
| Team members (second shooters, editors) | No | Up to 10 people |
Send & Track answers the question every photographer asks after a delivery: did they actually download it? You see visits, downloads per file, country and city (when the visitor accepts cookies) and how long each photo was viewed. See download tracking and branded file transfer.
Same-day sneak peeks from your phone or laptop
Event and sports photographers often need to send a first selection before leaving the venue. Transfr works in the phone’s browser as well as on a laptop, so you can upload 30 edited JPEGs from the camera app or Lightroom mobile and text the link to the organiser. If the venue Wi-Fi drops, the upload retries by itself. The full gallery follows later from your computer, in a second transfer with the same custom link style.
A delivery link is not an archive
Transfer links expire by design, and files are deleted afterwards. Tell clients in your delivery email how long they have (“available until 14 June”) and ask them to keep their own copy. Keep your masters in your own backup or cloud storage; if a client loses their photos a year later, re-send from your archive. For guidance on sharing originals without loss, read send photos to clients and send large photos.
